There are 4 things you can do this quarantine to stay on top of your beauty game. The world may be shut down but here is a few things we can do to not fall behind.
Life is all about discipline. (Well, an accomplished life is, at least). This is a fundamental principle which transcends every sphere of life. It is the secret sauce for success. The notion of discipline being key to success extends to fashion +beauty and our outlook as women. To look good, you have to be disciplined. People aren’t just born fabulous; it is an investment in ourselves that is worked on and needs to be perfected every day. Make a conscious and consistent effort to do the right things, the right way, and you will be surprised how much of an impact this will have on your appearance.
The truth is, you really don’t have to do too much or spend excessively to look elegant. Below are some basic behaviors to pick up, and turn into a daily routine, taking you one step closer to looking like the amazing woman you were born to be.
Follow these simple but effective steps to fall in love with your body and appearance.
Chug at least eight cups of water a day. You’ve probably heard that staying hydrated can keep your complexion clear, but there is a myriad of other benefits as well. Basically, drinking water is great for your health and appearance, so get plenty of it in your system. Carrying around a cute, refillable water bottle is a perfect way to make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day. This is my favorite water jug.
I know this sounds too simple and insignificant, and that’s exactly why it’s overlooked by many women. We rather shoot up our intake of soda and other sugary drinks that aren’t so great for our overall health. But staying hydrated helps the body function at an optimal level, something medical experts have continued to stress over the years.
Having a cup of water first thing in the morning helps detoxify the body, allowing the skin to glow. I quite didn’t believe this until I tried it myself. After about 2 weeks of drinking a glass of water each morning, I started seeing changes in my body. My skin looked clearer and I felt lighter.
I haven’t looked back since. I have no doubts the results will blow your mind, too. There is something special about drinking enough water. As I said earlier, drink an average of 8 cups of water daily. Make it a habit!
Wash your face every night. This is especially important if you use makeup. Nighttime is when our face replenishes skin cells, and you don't want to clog your pores. Not washing your face at night can also cause premature aging, and who wants that? Nobody! My favorite exfoliator
In addition to washing your face with a gentle face wash nightly, a weekly exfoliation and monthly at-home facial will keep your skin in great shape. A daily moisturizer will also help to keep your skin clear and hydrated. For any major skin problems, go to a dermatologist. They’ll know exactly what to do to get you into a skincare routine that works for you, and keeps your face clean and clear.
TIP: After an exhausting night out when you want to skip the face wash and just fall into bed, use a makeup removing wipe to quickly and easily cleanse your face. It’s not as good as actually washing your face, but it’ll keep you from breaking out.
Put down the chocolate bar and pick up the nutrition bar. That’s right, we all know we should be eating healthier. You’ve probably heard a million times that eating healthy actually makes you feel better, and it’s true! You’ll have more energy, your skin will be clearer, and your immune system will improve. My favorite bar.
I personally struggled with this part for a long time, so if you are currently in this situation, I want you to know that you aren’t alone. I was madly in love with chocolate bars and ice cream. I would go days without regular food, substituting the whole of my nutrition with chocolates. I truly was addicted; I thought it would be impossible to stop until I read through a skincare blog a couple years back which lead me to discover that if I could find a way to cut bad food out from my diet and embrace a healthy eating lifestyle, I’d look much better and more youthful.
And that was it for me. I made a conscious effort to start eating clean and healthy. To be honest with you, it wasn’t easy leaving a life of chocolatey goodness. But I made it happen through discipline. And hey, I have cheat days during which I allow myself to indulge in all things chocolate, but long gone are the days of my chocolate addiction, and I’m infinitely proud of myself for it.
Here is something to help you to get started:
If you’re craving something sweet, like chocolate, pick a healthy item with a sweet flavor, such as fruit or a smoothie, and eat that instead. Your craving will disappear! But if you’re a hardcore addict like I was and are unable to resist that chocolate bar or whatever you’re craving, eat it in moderation. If you’re someone who loves to snack, try eating six small, healthy meals in a day rather than the traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It will keep you from getting hungry and binge eating when it comes to mealtime.
Exercise. Want to get rid of the annoying and unsightly belly fat FAST? Start working out! Exercise is a great way to stay healthy, look smart, and fit. And don’t fret: working out doesn’t have to be anything rigorous like running miles or spending hours at the gym. One of my fast go to short exercise video.
There are uncomplicated and totally painless exercises you could engage in that are both fun and rewarding. What I recommend here is turning your hobbies into workouts. What do you love doing? Dance, swim, cycle…do whatever it is you enjoy doing that involves your body moving.
Other simple exercises you could do to stay in shape include taking an evening walk in your neighborhood, climbing the stairs, jogging, or doing squats as you brush your teeth. What I’m saying is, it doesn’t have to be difficult, because that’s the excuse most women give. Whatever you choose, it's critical you remain consistent. Don’t do a few days and stop. Keep at it until it becomes habitual to dedicate 20-30 minutes daily to exercise.
Although working out might be difficult to incorporate into your routine, exercise releases endorphins that make you feel good, so you’ll end up feeling great in no time. Doing this with consistency affects self-esteem positively, so the more you work out, the more confident you’ll feel.
